Start of #c64friends buffer: [20:51] * Now talking in #c64friends [20:51] * Topic is 'We Adore Our C64 == and Q-Link!!' [20:51] Hello Snogpitch [20:51] Howdy folsk [20:52] wow, it got warm in here when I shut the windows, need to open them back up I guess [20:52] How are you? [20:52] It's cold and windy up here. [20:53] same here, that's why I shut the window [20:53] place got warm really quick tho [20:54] I have the ceiling fan on all day but the house closed up. [20:55] It was rainy here earlier in the day, after that moved out the wind picked up [20:56] * Harlock (~Harlock@NewNet-72CDE75C.home1.cgocable.net) has joined #c64friends [20:56] * ChanServ sets mode: +v Harlock [20:56] * WizardNJ (~WizardNJ@NewNet-AA16D5C9.dyn.optonline.net) has joined #c64friends [20:56] * ChanServ sets mode: +o WizardNJ [20:57] Howdy Harlock and WizardNJ [20:57] Hi snogpitch [20:57] hiya all [20:58] How are the plans for the show going, everything on schedule? [20:59] pretty much on autopilot at the moment [20:59] a little over two months to go [20:59] under that is [21:01] btw, your tax rebate can be spent at C=4 if you have nothing else to spend it on. [21:01] I have to put a new engine in the car with mine. [21:02] * Hellion_1 (~Hellion_1@NewNet-4F43296D.unk.tds.net) has joined #c64friends [21:02] * ChanServ sets mode: +o Hellion_1 [21:02] and a new front end, and that will take my whole check. [21:03] Howdy Hellion_1 [21:03] Hey Snog... [21:05] I guess you'll need that to drive there, so it's permitted :) [21:05] Yep. Car is running fine but engine is sounding like a diesel. Has 256k on it. [21:06] That's alot of mileage [21:07] Hot if you take care of them. I have two over 200K. [21:07] Not. [21:08] Evening. [21:08] Hey Golan! [21:09] My fiero had 170K on it, that was the highest of any car I have driven [21:09] * Duo (~snogpitch@c64friends.com) Quit (Ping timeout) [21:09] That van I drove over to Ohio has 286K on it. [21:09] Hiya, Hellion. [21:09] howdy Golan [21:09] * wildstar (~Wildstar@CCC21815.2BB1A63F.D529ED13.IP) has joined #c64friends [21:09] And others... [21:10] Hi Golan [21:11] Hey SNog. Which Apple powerbooks (old) had 2.5" SCSI drives in them? [21:13] * groepaz (~groepaz@NewNet-7CA12D06.ish.de) Quit (Ping timeout) [21:13] Howdy wildstar [21:13] howdy Snogpitch [21:13] I think 140 series and earlier [21:13] My 150 used an ide drive [21:14] The Duos had 2.5" SCSI drives. [21:14] but it still had on board scsi connector [21:14] * Bryan (~chatzilla@NewNet-32ECD8AF.hsd1.nj.comcast.net) has joined #c64friends [21:14] Looking to source a couple 2.5" SCSI drives. [21:15] It would have to be prior to 1996 in vintage [21:15] Hellion: Use http://www.apple-history.com/ to see which did and didn't. [21:15] I suppose any laptop from the days of Amiga 1200 (which had 2.5" IDE) to throughout the 90s had 2.5" HDs [21:16] * Duo (~snogpitch@NewNet-9939F851.fuse.net) has joined #c64friends [21:16] I can't be sure about SCSI, though. Snogpitch, that is a very good question [21:16] Thanks Golan! [21:17] * ShadowM (~user@NewNet-85AB76C0.dsl.milwwi.ameritech.net) has joined #c64friends [21:17] * ChanServ sets mode: +o ShadowM [21:17] Duos and most 100 series would be what you would need to look for [21:17] Duos with 4 digits should have IDE [21:18] Same with Powerbooks [21:18] SCSI wuzzy was a bear [21:19] Cool, Thanks. [21:19] scsi wuzzy had no hair [21:19] Phuzzy Wuzzy went to the moon [21:19] SCSi Wuzzy wasn't SCSI wuz he? He was IDE. [21:19] and played golf [21:19] I only know that if I plug in that SCSI card to my PCI slot, I'll be able to run both SCSI and IDE.... [21:19] or was it buzzy wuzzy aldrin playin lunar golf? [21:20] no .. phuzzy and wuzzy [21:20] two asterisks [21:20] buzz aldrin was phuzzy? [21:20] NO. [21:20] Phuzzy [21:20] Wuzzy [21:20] Buzz was simply Buzzy [21:21] NO BUZZY [21:21] 2.5" SCSI drives are a bugger to find. I had to search high and low to find one for my Sun Voyager. [21:21] but he also played lunar golf, but not on the 64 [21:21] Wuzzy Bryan [21:21] heh [21:21] Hellion: This is for the CDTV, right? [21:21] my DD 3.5 floppy is a bugger to find too :( [21:21] You can usually find scsi drives at computer shows, tho I haven't looked for them in ages [21:22] Haven't seen a "computer show" in Cincinnati in ages as well [21:22] I saw some scsi drives downtown today but not 2.5" [21:22] Anyone ever popped the keycaps off an Amiga 1200 and/or CDTV keyboard? [21:22] Golan: Yes. [21:22] we dont have computer shows around here anymore [21:22] golan, yes, A1200 used 2.5" IDE [21:23] golan nevermind [21:23] not much in computer shows here either rrCurtisP [21:23] I saw plenty of SCSI drives at VCF, but all were 3.5" or 5.25" half and full height. [21:24] I am thinking about starting the keyboard swap tonight. I figure if I can do the keycaps I'll save a lot of grief. [21:24] Golan. Just take your time. Don't get in a hurry or you will break the key towers off in the caps. [21:25] That's what has me so nervous. [21:26] Practice on another keyboard first. [21:26] Is there a good way to do it or should I just use a flathead screwdriver and be gentle? [21:26] relax... if you're nervous and hands shaking... stop. [21:26] As it happens, I have an old, spare 1200 keyboard. I guess I'll guinea pig it. [21:26] I figure that once the keyboard is done, I'm on easy street. [21:26] golan theres a keycap remover tool that comes in handy but not sure where to find one these days [21:27] Really? I've never heard of such a thing. [21:27] you could try an old pc keyboard instead, if it gets knackered who cares, theres tons more [21:27] chip puller might do the trick in a pinch [21:27] got it with some parts from an atari parts place [21:27] Also most of such tools are limited to specifc models/types of keyboards [21:27] yes chip puller should work [21:27] I use large open hemostats. That way even pressure is applied under BOTH sides of the key. [21:28] I don't have a chip puller either. :( [21:28] mine works on most keyboards rather springy [21:28] Evening [21:28] A chip puller and a flat head screw driver and be gentle [21:28] I'd like to have this 1200 all done for C4. [21:29] you going to sell it or use it for a demo? [21:29] why switching the keycaps golan? just for different looks? [21:29] Neither. Figured I'd just bring it along to play with. :) [21:29] Most computer toolset has a tweezer like tool [21:29] Doesn't the 1200 and the CDTV have the same keyboard DIN plug? [21:30] Harlock: I'm painting the case black and I have a black CDTV keyboard, mouse and external 3.5" drive to complete the illusion. [21:30] I see [21:30] The 1200 has a ribbon cable internally. I'm not sure what's in the CTDV keyboard. [21:30] Golan: Nevermind....DUHHHH [21:30] Go to Staples and buy a computer tool kit. [21:30] oddly enough I was thinking of doing a similar thing on me 64 [21:30] Gotta get the 060 working too. Haven't decided if I'm going to put a Subway USB in. It would be cool but I have no real need for USB on the 1200. [21:30] putting 64c keyboard in and painting white to get 64G looks [21:31] Look if it has a IC Extracter... Looks alot like a tweezer but a little different [21:32] I've been debating about what to bring to C4 to show off/play with and I figure the SuperPET is too big and heavy to bother with. [21:32] Golan: Bring them both.. :) [21:32] KIM1 should be small enough [21:35] I gotta leave room to haul back goodies. [21:36] i am bringing my micro-KIM [21:36] Come to think of it, the thing I'm most excited about bringing back will fit in the glovebox. I gotta get me a uIEC. [21:36] Dragos will be the official time-keeper of the event. :) [21:36] caricon, i collect re-runs disks!!! [21:37] have you seen the new pics? [21:37] no [21:37] http://c64.digitalscream.com/MicroKIM/MicroKIM10.JPG [21:38] Nice blue LED segments!!!! Looks sharp. [21:38] Dragos, I have the 1992 years ones [21:39] i need to grab a MOS 6502 out of a vic and put in there too [21:39] caricon, cool [21:39] wouldn't one out of a 1541 drive work? [21:39] of course [21:40] Dragos, do you need them? If not was thinking on just putting on eBay. [21:40] I'm fairly certain I have some spares, Dragos. I'll look around and if I find one I'll bring it next weekend. [21:40] Out of curiosity, what is in there now? [21:40] well, i suppose it depends on what you want for them, i thought you were erasing the, :) [21:40] I would never erase an original. [21:41] golan: rockwell 6502 [21:42] Interesting. [21:42] You're right. It needs a MOS 6502. [21:45] I still say, better to sacrifice a 1541 rather than a VIC20 [21:46] well, its nto a sacrifice, the rockwell can take its place [21:46] all my vics are here in my office,, spare 1541s are all the way in the garage... [21:47] hellion: I have 2 more servers for you [21:47] thats 4 total [21:47] Cool!!!!! [21:47] How many servers does one need? [21:47] I will be over next week to free up your garage space. [21:47] I have about 10 in the datacenter [21:48] I can use them. [21:48] Just sold my 3DO on EBAY. [21:48] brb [21:48] Gang, gotta jet early tongiht. L8er. [21:48] WHAT!!!! What came with it? [21:51] hi Snogpitch [21:51] Howdy [21:52] They have the metal bubble in the middle (I need the ones that fit over that metal bubble). I have the right type of bits - wrong size. [21:52] 3DO sold for $85. [21:53] OK, got those in my bit set [21:53] guess that means I can tamper with them :> [21:53] http://www.newelectronx.com/proddetail.php?prod=gamebit [21:53] not that hard to find.... [21:53] had mine for years [21:54] i have the funky screwdrivers to open gameboy advance and such too [21:54] The bit has this circular notch at the tip to allow such insertion over the bit. The Y-shape, Dragos? [21:54] I have a whole set of security bits. [21:54] They are all security bits [21:55] clicky the linky or try google [21:56] * weirdwolf (~weirdwolf@NewNet-8735D888.hsd1.wa.comcast.net) has joined #c64friends [21:56] * WizardNJ (~WizardNJ@NewNet-AA16D5C9.dyn.optonline.net) Quit (Quit: ) [21:56] Howdy weirdwolf [21:57] Hello Snogpitch [21:57] :-) Good to see you again. [22:17] Schema: How many 64's 1541's and monitors where you requesting for use at C4? [22:18] Woops, missed him. [22:18] Bryan: his thought on the lack of writing skills. [22:19] Snogpitch well they were sent as GeoZipped files. But I was nice and included the fonts for him. If he complains too much, well I can copy them back to a disk, open them and pdf them. [22:19] lordronin, likely he will send them to me to process them further :) [22:20] weird wolf that is not lame duck, that is dum uneducated ignert ork. [22:20] ork = Shadowrun creature, Orc = AD&D creature. [22:20] lol... yeah.. Who figured out how to use Linux to convert PS to pdf? Have it right in front of me {VBESG} [22:21] weirdwolf: What is wrong with lordronin's writing skills?! I do not see anything wrong with them.. [22:21] Ah #8, you taught me how to do that. I just came up with the thoery. [22:22] Bryan thinks that as he hasn't seen allt he cat stuff. Since LR hasn't senbtt he CD with the bad files on it yet. [22:22] Now that I have PostPrint, eventually I'll be caught up to speed on how to do that [22:23] lordronin: what is wrong with cats? :) [22:23] Bryan: Lordronin has very low self-esteem about his ability to write his imagination on paper or electronic form [22:24] * WiziBook is now known as Wiz-macG4 [22:25] weirdwolf: He does?! I thought the self-putdown bits were just him making fun of himself.. ie in jest.. [22:25] Bryan: ask him yourself... [22:26] Snogpitch, I can give you pointers if you need on the little that I know. [22:26] Why are you asking me about his writing abilities. He proves over and over again that he's against the grain and smarter than he gives himself credit for. [22:26] and if he truly thought that, he would stop writing.. [22:26] I am already familiar with geoPublish, so I would imagine the learning curve would be rather small [22:26] Bryan nothing is wrong with cats. They control the multiverses. Now my stories with the mystical cat that shows up rearely. They are drenn. [22:26] but since he has not stopped writing.... [22:27] the best drenn.. :) [22:27] Bryan: he writes with fluidity, emotion and drivel control.. So I don't see why he complains he can't write. [22:27] exactly [22:27] drivel control? [22:27] bbl [22:28] Snogppitch Unless it is absolutely needed for the document. Sort of bypass on GeoPub. Use GeoWrite. I make the foter and then I overlay the special pages like a GeoPub one for the cover and the wrapper. [22:28] :) If you read his stuff, its quite fun actually.. But if you have a perverse sense of thought process. [22:28] Snog: LR's commentary... It basically means he has no control over what he says along with his constant complaining. [22:28] Ah weirdwolf hits it farily well. Sexist, violent and not in the current fad of fashionable thinking ar eht estories. [22:29] Speaking of AD&D, I am currently downloading everything that TSR ever put out. In PDF format. All manuals, modules, etc. [22:29] I am not exactly a normal thinking person.. [22:31] :0) Bryan you will fit right in! [22:31] thanks.. :) [22:32] I went to a library book sale today [22:32] find any good c= books? [22:32] Looked for C= books, didn't find any [22:33] I did find a Star Trek book I didn't have [22:33] Wonder how many libraries have C= books anymore. [22:33] hellion is the tsr site you downloading the AD&D stuff from? [22:34] haven't found any C= books in library here, wish I could [22:34] No. A buddy of mine has it posted on his FTP site. [22:35] 9.2GB wotrh of D&D goodness. [22:35] worth [22:35] is it open to public or just for friends? [22:35] i have the forgotten realms interactiv atlas and campaing cartographer and a tone of its add-ons [22:35] as weel as the dragon mag archive [22:36] I would be interested in your Dragon Mag archive. [22:38] Plus I found a cookbook, and a couple music books [22:38] Hellion_1 now you did it, brought up RPGs. OK how many hard back books is T$R offering Along with the mods they are presenting? [22:39] I'd be interested in that site for DLing back up copies. Have two sets of the 13 books. Does he have the Dragon Mag CD? [22:39] wasn't me that started the rpg thing this week [22:40] LR: Let me see if I can get a list from this FTP site. [22:42] I guess its private then [22:44] i have way to many rpg books on cd [22:44] I have none. I was never into rpg's. [22:44] im downloading some dragon magz now pdf files who wants them when i'm done [22:44] He does not have a list posted. As soon as I finish DLing everything, I will let you know. [22:44] rrCurtisP, I have 20+ feet of RPG original books. Still not enough and I only play one game that is still in print. [22:44] wizm, why waste time on indv issues [22:45] the archive discs are the way to go [22:45] has issues 1 through 250 [22:45] yeah i guess this download is 300+ issues [22:45] with all ads intact [22:46] ohh cool [22:46] only stuff I play thats still in print is bsg, and conan (gotta new supplement today) [22:47] I have the archive too [22:47] I havent played much of anything lately [22:47] some serenity, but that kind of fell apart [22:48] curtis, where did you get the archive from? Can't tell you my feelings about 4E, as well as some of theother old time gamers feelings. This is a family list. But I'll sell the stuff in the shop. While still playing 1E. [22:55] Harlock the Dragon CD? Went for about $50 as a limited offer thing. [22:55] my 150 came with 7.5 on it new [22:55] That one has 7.5.5 [22:56] LR, do you mean on ebay? the dragon cd set I saw was supposed to be "around for a while" the store owner said at the time, but he only got one copy and never restocked it [22:56] ya, look for something with the 030 cpu [22:56] Dragos I should have at least 60 issues more for you when im done grabbing them [22:56] I have only played 1st edition, but 3rd is sooo much easier from the books i have read [22:56] i mean, a higher number is ALWAYS better [22:56] thats compaint #1 with the old rules [22:57] ok [22:57] dragos, I always played 1st ed too, I also have conan rpg which is based on 3.5e rules, maybe its only mee but it don't seem easier [22:57] maybe cause it newer to me [22:58] brb need to reboot [22:58] * Dopple (~Dopple@NewNet-DC69D595.rochester.res.rr.com) has joined #c64friends [22:58] * ChanServ sets mode: +v Dopple [22:58] * Wiz-macG4 (~WizardNJ@NewNet-AA16D5C9.dyn.optonline.net) Quit (Quit: Wiz-macG4) [22:59] Hellooooo Dopple [22:59] That was the same year my 150 started production, and it was IDE [23:00] * golan missed Mac talk? First time in quite a while I've been able to make it here. :) [23:03] Helloo Balzabaar [23:03] Evening, Bal. [23:03] heya folks [23:03] Yea, haven't been around much, been Hammin' it up lately. [23:04] . [23:04] * Harlock wanna go hf lately now that I can [23:04] I'll be upgrading to general at the end of this month [23:04] Harlock, I saw it adverted in the flyers sent to my shop. As I understand, most people bought it direct from T$R. In my area the cost and format where not compatible. I mean there wasn't the bread and most people didn't have CD units at that time, who would buy the disk. [23:05] cool dopple [23:05] I have a Heath HF rig now, just need an antenna. [23:06] yeah canadian company [23:06] it'd probably cost me more, then... [23:06] guy who runs it was one of the teachers I had in college [23:06] Harlock, too much Roll playing, not enough Role playing, massivley micro management. Those are the comments from the late E. Gary Gygax. ME I say that it takes away the creative spirit of the game for that 3.5 [23:06] Hoi Balzabaar [23:07] Good night all. [23:07] LR, what slows me down in the 3.5 / d20 stuff is the level of details [23:07] * Hellion_1 (~Hellion_1@NewNet-4F43296D.unk.tds.net) Quit (Quit: ) [23:07] g'night hellion 1 [23:07] I'm just looking forward to getting away from the Vancian spell system [23:08] conan rpg is very different spell system, very dark in that respect [23:08] When I was running 2E, I pretty much treated it like 1E [23:11] Harlock, right that is part of the micro management aspect. As well as taking away the creativeness and imgaination for the players and DM. Lets not talk about the hundreds of books you can buy for the D20 ssytem. Want how to do blood magic? Got it in the shop. [23:12] one of the reasons I got into conan instead of traditional 3.5e, less stuff to buy, and unlike some rpg's most of it really is optional [23:12] problem is the one book I want, is out of stock everywhere, typical [23:13] do people really buy those books? [23:13] the 3.5e or conan rpg? [23:14] the 3.5 splat books [23:15] I guess some people do [23:16] I haven't bought any myself, conan has been as close as I've got [23:18] Did anyone see Ironman this weekend? [23:18] Harlock that isn't the small booklet sized That I picked up of the main game is it? [23:19] what gets me about the stuff is the cost, I mean I can do without full colour glossy pages if it means cutting the book from $60 to $30 [23:19] not yet for me snogpitch but I wanna see it [23:19] LR, yes they did a small version of the rulebook for conan [23:19] Make sure you stay for the scene after the credits [23:19] My kid saw it, sais it was really good. [23:19] Harlock my DMG back in 78 was $18. Pretty much all the other books where around #15. Hardcover, good paper and sewn in pages. OK pen and ink drawings but that is fine with me. [23:20] I remember that too LR [23:20] I got the d&d red box, with an adventure and extra dice for $30 not long after that [23:20] I read somebody said Iron Man was the Anti-V for Vendetta.. [23:21] LR, have you seen the "scrolls of skelos" supplement for conan rpg anywhere? [23:24] The previews before the movie got me pretty hyped, Batman, Indy Jones, Narnia, just to name a few I hope to see... [23:25] I wouldn't mind seeing the new version of get smart too [23:26] ya, previews for that didn't make it today [23:26] along with Speed Racer [23:27] another one I wanna see but might wait for satelite or dvd on that one [23:28] Harlock was that the red or pink box Pink box had drenn dice Rule book and Keep on the Borderlnads. Red box has the dm book and the player book and made my teeth hurt to read the sugary sweetness. [23:29] anyone know what the Avenger initiative is? [23:29] Scrolls of Skelos, no not as of yet. But when/if I can make my next order. Might be at one of the distributor places. Or at knoble knight games. [23:30] * WizardNJ (~WizardNJ@NewNet-AA16D5C9.dyn.optonline.net) Quit (Quit: ) [23:36] lr my first d&d box was red not pink [23:37] keep on the borderlands was the module I got B1 I think [23:38] I wonder if the skelos book is being redone for 2nd ed conan? [23:40] Harlock ok then it was just the one book and the adventure. That is what they call the pink box. Though the book looks red to me and the box looks like a lite red. Compared to the next edition, it is a very pale red. [23:41] i had the basic and expert set, but never played it, it was ad&d for us from the start [23:41] ok, red one I had was from 83, 2 rulebooks no module included, I bought b1 separately but they still did 1 rulebook 1 adventure for expert (blue) set [23:41] Keep on the borderlands {B2} came in that set. The blue set that came out around 1977ce had B1. Where you rolled off of charts to basically assing the monsters and the treasure for the rooms. Got a copy just for collectivity. Not that great for a starter adventure. [23:42] when 83 version came out expert set had X1 isle of dread [23:42] Gotta run, everyone... Good night! [23:43] g'night balzabaar [23:43] Blue set was released a coupleof times. There are some differences betweent he pink box and the red box expert books. Mostly in some spells and in levels. Then there is the masters companions and finally the immortals boxed set. Yeah I play the game and have those sets {EG} [23:43] * Balzabaar (~balza@NewNet-B4D66898.socal.res.rr.com) Quit (Quit: ) [23:43] I wonder why they put a basic adventure in the expert pink set?
