[21:03] I used it when I was on GEnie back in the 90s [21:03] Also used it for local BBS's [21:04] That I see it [21:04] Fhat where it where I see it [21:05] _Six_ was going to put up some video on his website of a local bbs party, not sure if that make it up yet or not...anyway, I'm in that video [21:05] 1991 or 1992 I think it was [21:06] Good [21:06] Something to ask _Six_ next time he isn't afk [21:06] O K [21:23] Time to drag my cold-ridden bod to bed. Niters all. [22:02] Hoi gang, we have power and phone again [22:03] Hello LR [22:03] Hoi Wildstar, when did power return for you? [22:03] Hi, L.R. [22:03] Thursday, I think [22:03] Hoi BeeMan [22:03] You? [22:04] Shop on Thursday, house on late friday afternoon. [22:04] I knew that you should have had power up sometime yesterday [22:04] 125mph is what I heard on the radio as the recorded wind speed [22:05] Shop is on the street line. House is on as different ckt. Though as you know right next door [22:07] Bad news to ACUG members. Made it to 11 pages today for the newsletter. Would have been out this last week. Save for the bigt storm here. [22:07] Ian! [22:07] Hey golan. [22:08] I think eslapion is working himself into a lather. The PMs he is sending me on Lemon are the work of a very troubled mind. [22:11] We need to up his meds. [22:12] brownies are a good thing to hide stuff like that... [22:14] I would ask what's going on, but it's probably a soap opera I'd rather not know... [22:14] Wild star and I are just talking about the storm that hit us and living in a state of emergency. Hey we may even get to be a federal disaster area. [22:15] I remember visiting the parents once where the town was in a state of emergency, it got so much snow dumped in one storm... [22:15] Snog-o-rama: It's a discussion at Lemon about development of new hardware for the 64. [22:16] for hre it is the big wind storm that came in and knocked us for a loop for the last 6 days. [22:16] National Guard was driving thru the streets just to get the snow packed down enough for the snow plows to get around town [22:17] At the time I didn't know the city was closed, no barricade stopped me from getting there, apparently the freeway I was on was also closed. [22:18] Nat Guard here opened up the base for a reliefe shelter with beds and food. Coast Guardsmen rported in and wre also helping. Had a couple of fatalities, how many not heard for certain. Loads of damage. But for here all C= things are fine. [22:19] * Hellion_1 (~Hellion_1@NewNet-CE5D8AC1.unk.tds.net) has joined #c64friends [22:19] * ChanServ sets mode: +o Hellion_1 [22:19] Howdy Hellion_1 [22:19] Hoi Hellion-1 [22:19] yo [22:20] Sorry I'm late. Just got home.. [22:20] Say on the subject of C=. What is a good music writing tool for the begtinner and is there a place to find it easily? [22:20] ShadowM put up Compute's SID Player disk on his website, you might look at that if you don't have it already [22:21] Hellion! [22:21] Golan! [22:21] Working late, Hellion_1? [22:21] Actually Snogpitch that is the one I was hopping to get. Do you have his url at hawnd? I was reading about it in CommodoreFree #12 [22:21] Nah, my cousin is leaving for the Marines Monday. We had a family get-together. [22:22] let me find it, hang on a sec [22:24] http://lyonlabs.org/commodore/stereo-sid/enhanced-sid.d64 [22:25] He didn't put up the 128 version [22:26] Heading off there to give it a view. Will go there on the 128 to grab the file for use. Thanks a lot! Didn't know there was a 128 version. [22:26] http://lyonlabs.org/commodore/stereo-sid/stereoeditor.d64 [22:27] there's another editor, you might want to look at his stereosid page at: http://lyonlabs.org/commodore/stereo-sid/stereoeditor.d64 [22:28] oops the page is at: http://lyonlabs.org/commodore/stereo-sid/index.ht ml [22:28] * AlanR (AlanR@NewNet-6F315E2C.dial1.cincinnati1.level3.net) has joined #c64friends [22:29] Howdy AlanR [22:29] * ChanServ sets mode: +o AlanR [22:29] Evening peoples [22:29] Hoi AlanR [22:29] Did everyone see the little story on the C64 CNN ran a few hours ago? [22:31] TV here has been turned off most of the day [22:31] http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/12/08/commodore.feedback.irpt/index.html?i ref=newssearch [22:32] I'd read the stuff on the CNN website, but this was the first time I actually saw something on TV [22:32] hellion: watched the news or read the paper today or yesterday? [22:33] They said tomorrow morning they are going to have a real C64 setup to show [22:33] 8AM Eastern [22:37] Thanks Snogpitch, went ther and grabbed files as well as read up on some of the sid things. [22:38] The companion book is probably a good thing to find too if you can get your hands on one [22:38] Have to look and see in the boxes if that came in, the pic looked familiar to me. Library is boxed up because of the leaks. [22:40] Personally for me, I enjoy playing the SIDs, I'm not high enough caliber to handle creative music composition [22:41] Any of you guys use a dual-SID setup? [22:41] I use the cartridge [22:41] Used to play piano, guitar and vilon before the war. Might still be able to read music {G}. Something to add to our learning. I mean we finally made a SEQ file go to disk in programming class. Now to find out why the original idea made a 29 character name. [22:42] I have just the Stereo Cart from Dr. Evil labs. Not really used it much. [22:43] Is there a lot of stuff out there that utilizes it? [22:43] Back when CCCC used to go to the Computer Shows, Roger Hoyer would bring his stereo gear for his C64 [22:44] Play Stereo SID tunes the entire show [22:44] Have several stereo dis pieces. Have to dig out a rca cable and connect that and the audio output to the shop stereo someday for a demo. [22:47] I usually pump the tunes thru the living room Audio system [22:48] Roger had a portable speaker setup [22:48] similiar to what ShadowM brings to Expos [22:48] Need a switch box and more cables to connect everything from the linux system through the 128 into the reel to reel unit, for the house stereo. [22:49] I hwd a small mono speaker that was battery powered. We tried to use that as the second steroes channel. Real bad sound. [22:49] I've got the switchbox, but would rather have an Audio Mixer :) [22:50] considered buying one when the local Radio Shack was discounting stuff before closing [22:51] Ah the audio mixer I had in radio class. No I would suggest not going for the Radio Shack switch box. Had one and the switches went out after a few months. Would suggest the Pelican brand one. I use one of those for all the gear connected to the bedroom stereo. [22:51] switchbox works OK, it can control 3 sources, but can only play from one at a time [22:52] hmmm, I've had my switchbox for years, never had a bit of problem, of course it got put on the shelf when I bought the new stereo outfit about 10 years ago [22:53] Hmm, I think I have 6 and it wa around $27. Recently saw a newer model for around $19. But yeah only runs one system at a time. Have my games DVD, CD and Satellite TV all connected to a 1702 in the bedroom. [22:54] The new stereo amp has inputs for 9 stereo devices, where the previous one only had 3, so I needed the extra inputs back then [22:55] Feel that way at times, needing more inputs. Well gamers here and time for me to split. See you later in the week and or next week [22:56] * LordRonin (~lordronin@NewNet-C0E772F1.dial1.seattle1.level3.net) Quit (Client exited) [22:56] Darn. I'm hungry again. [22:56] * golan has a no eggnog before December 15th rule [22:56] I *love* eggnog. I drink it like it is going out of style. [22:56] Gonna sign off for tonight. Gonna put Pirates of the Caribbean III "At World's End" up on my projector. [22:57] Later, brother from another mother. [22:57] I'd offer a greek cookie, but I'm selfish and keeping them to myself :9 [22:57] What is a Greek cookie? [22:57] Later all! [22:57] kepp it real [22:57] * Hellion_1 (~Hellion_1@NewNet-CE5D8AC1.unk.tds.net) Quit (Quit: ) [22:58] The local Greek Orthodox Church had a bake sale today [22:58] Uh oh. Bake + sale == crazy delicious. [22:59] ya, I tried to limit my cookies to under $20 [22:59] baklava $1.50 each [22:59] I would have looked for a eat $20 worth there and bring $20 worth home loophole. [22:59] got six of those [23:00] I joked with the gal behind the case that this haul should do me for lunch [23:01] had I eatten all of that, I would have passed out from the sugar/honey high [23:04] Some things are worth it. [23:04] ya, two pieces give me a good buzz [23:05] http://news.communitypress.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071108/NEWS 01/711080408/1093/RSS1166 [23:05] I gotta tell you, I've been on a diet for a while. At this point I would kill a man with a shrimp fork for a bite of a pancake. [23:07] it's been a while since I've made pancakes...and I have a good recipe for it too. [23:08] I can't stand the pancake mixes bought in the store.. [23:09] and need real maple syrup for them too, none of that corn syrup stuff bleech :P [23:10] * Talus (~lbn@NewNet-63374C0D.boanxx21.adsl-dhcp.tele.dk) Quit (eu.routing.hub newnet.ludd.ltu.se) [23:11] Luckily I live in the land of maple syrup. My banana pancake recipe is simple and brilliant. So good. [23:12] are they mashed up in the pancake, or left in slices? [23:12] I never want to see another pan cake again [23:12] *shudder* [23:12] bbl, movie time [23:13] mmm, Baklava [23:13] Mashed up. [23:14] My banana bread recipe would mess you up too. [23:14] I love baking. [23:14] I have a good banana bread recipe too :) [23:14] golan: Chalk up another similarity. [23:15] Another newspaper article lists the pastry: Baklava, chocolate baklava, kourambiethes, koulourakia, melomakarouna, galaktobouriko, pasta flora and other pastries will be available by the piece (50 cents to $2.50). Prepackaged assortment boxes ($5 and $10) will also be offered. [23:15] golan: email me bananabread recipe, i was looking for one [23:16] I love making muffins. Pumpkin, apple/cinnamon, banana, lemonade (really, so good) and my dinner muffins which are garlic butter/mushroom. [23:16] It sounds odd but people go crazy for those. [23:16] does sound odd. [23:16] You got it, l0! [23:16] http://www.40single.com/recipes/rbre0003.html [23:17] my recipe is already on the net :) [23:17] tea loaf? [23:17] ya, that's what Chiquita called it [23:18] its got the consistency of a nutbread tho [23:18] Sent. [23:18] thanks golan [23:18] years of tweaking eh [23:18] * BeeMan (~Javauser@NewNet-71D084B3.tampabay.res.rr.com) Quit (Quit: Leaving) [23:18] I guess.... bread is one of your favorite foods .. so that makes sense [23:19] I went to a chat party in 2000 and baked over 3 dozen loafs to hand out to folks [23:19] everyone wanted the recipe [23:20] Dad always begged for a couple loafs [23:20] nice [23:20] one for now...one for later [23:20] bbl [23:21] * smj (~smj@NewNet-F48CD4CB.freeshell.org) has joined #c64friends [23:21] Howdy smj [23:21] * smj bows [23:21] ahh the eggsnog is back [23:21] * smj drinks pumpkin spice [23:22] * JoeCommodore (~joec@NewNet-A8F08E23.goldrush.com) has joined #c64friends [23:22] Howdy JoeCommodore [23:22] Hey everybody! [23:23] not necessarily, but ya [23:25] heh [23:25] hello Joe [23:26] I went to a Greek bake sale today [23:26] that's what started that talk [23:26] * Talus (~lbn@NewNet-63374C0D.boanxx21.adsl-dhcp.tele.dk) has joined #c64friends [23:26] Howdy Talus [23:27] Hi Talus [23:27] Did I miss everyone ir has it been quiet tonite? [23:27] it's been very quiet [23:27] no rbtb? [23:28] the PET 4032 still is having its display issue. [23:28] Not that I've seen since I've been on [23:28] Hm, I am sure he will be at the CHM to see Jack Tramiel Monday [23:28] Ray Carlsen says he hates working on PETs because most of the failed components are soldered to the board. [23:28] What sor of display issue? [23:29] basically it just displays everything on a single horizontal line across the middle of the screen [23:29] vert size and vert linearity does nothing [23:30] Ohh, sounds like either the video controller or something in the monitor is dead (more likely monitor, do you see brightness change where the cursor should be? [23:30] yes, you can see the cursor blinking [23:31] basically all the reverse video @ signs on a single horizontal solid line [23:31] four beeps [23:31] or feeps [23:31] or tickers [23:31] then a broken horizontal line with the first dash blinking [23:31] I read that the regulators on the deflection board can go and cause similar problems. [23:32] if it makes the sounds and the cursor blinks it sounds like its alive. Maybe you should relay that to Ray that it is most likely a monitor issue, he might do it then. [23:32] I did :) [23:32] maybe it's something simple like the yoke needing adjustment [23:33] I did check that (carefully) as well as other things [23:33] but yeah I was thinking along those lines too. [23:33] personally, I don't mess with crt's unless I have to [23:34] Have you opened it and checked the monitor plug, (unplug/replug?) [23:34] yeah, I do a debuzz on the vectrex and I always discharge the CRT prior to working [23:35] yes, I have. [23:35] thats how I got to the vert size / vert linearity trimmers. [23:36] Hmm, maybe you can find someone with a spare large PET monitor you can try/swap. (I thoght Robert sent ray a spare for parts..) [23:36] you right about that. He didn't say absolutely not, he just said he hated working on them ) [23:37] fortunately he works close to me, so it would be fairly easy. [23:38] Thats the best I can do I'm not that good at electronics (wish I had the time) [23:39] no problem I appreciate the brainstorming [23:41] Another PET life test (if the keyboard works) is plug in a tape drive, press shift-run/stop, press play on the cassette and then run/stop (to stop LOADing) and if the cassette stops then BASIC is alive, if not then it could be a dirty keyboard too. [23:41] You'll have to let us know how the problem got resolved... [23:42] actually, I've done that tape test on a c64 before [23:42] Or since it is a large screen just type a bunch of stuff, when you get to like the 36th column you will hear the jingle. [23:42] didn't have a monitor to plug it in to [23:43] wanted to see if the machine worked [23:43] I do the tape test on 64s at thrrift stores (when all the stuff is around) [23:45] Did you read the CNN article on the 64? [23:45] yes, it was fair. [23:45] but typical :) [23:46] also It got a slashdot posting and many of the responses were quite nice (somewhat rare for slashdot) [23:49] the slashdot article - http://hardware.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/12/07/1736209 [23:50] I want another cookie, but don't dare this close to bedtime :( [23:51] oki, have a good night Snogpitch [23:51] The sugar buzz would keep me awake for 1/2 the nite [23:51] heh [23:54] * MikeAZ1 (~chatzilla@NewNet-1D907063.hsd1.nj.comcast.net) Quit (Quit: ChatZilla 0.9.79 [Firefox 2.0.0.11/2007112718]) [23:55] well I gotta work tomorrow so I better turn in too. Nite, whoever goes to the tramiel talk report back next weekend. [23:55] ya, I'm looking forward to heard how it goes [23:56] I think it will be webcast too, beter check the site... [23:56] yes, computerhistory.org [23:57] I wonder if they have the bandwidth for everyone that wants to watch it [23:57] I donated $15k to them, they better! [23:58] bill gates donated $175k [23:58] and they have plenty of other corporate sponsorship [23:58] plus they're in the middle of silicon valley, it would be embarassing if they didn't, right? :) [23:58] I don't remember what it was, but I remember trying to watch something one the web a few years ago, and couldn't even get to the website so many folks were hitting it [23:59] no mention of webcast on the event listing, will have to check monday. [23:59] If you haven't had a chance I highly recommend the CHM. [23:59] There was link last week on the webpage.
