[20:45] * Now talking in #c64friends [20:45] * Topic is 'We Adore Our C64 == and Q-Link!!' [20:45] Howdy folks [20:45] wow, Caricon is here... [20:45] Hi Snogpitch [20:46] not flooded there? [20:46] No, not where I live. [20:46] lucky [20:46] Actually, the cloestest river isn't even flooded. [20:47] I figured you'd be close enough to the Blanchard river that you'd have problems too [20:47] Hi Snog [20:47] No. I live right on the Ohio/Indiana border. St. Mary's river is the closest. [20:48] BRB [20:48] We have the opposite here, we are 10 inches negative in rainfall, drought conditions [20:49] A quick tour near a cornfield will give you an idea how bad it is. [20:49] our local lake is +23ft [20:49] I was up in Portland Indiana yesterday, their corn didn't look too bad [20:50] * niedobry (~bbrindle@NewNet-D122D0F0.rn.hr.cox.net) has joined #c64friends [20:50] Howdy niedobry [20:50] Hello all [20:50] The week before I was in New Philadelphia, their corn looked pretty good [20:51] I haven't looked at the corn out back. The farmer has a few hundred acres behind me. [20:52] Most corn here is brown, if it has any green, it's a yellowish type of green. [20:52] We drove to Oklahoma last week, corn down there was already brown. No green. [20:52] the grass is so brown, can't tell if it's dirt or grass from a distance [20:52] Mine crunches when you walk on it. [20:52] Everything is green here again. Need to mow the lawn sometime this week too. [20:53] I think the landlord has only cut the grass twice this summer [20:53] But just a few miles to the east of here, can't get thru since all the roads are flooded. [20:53] all green in my part of texas atm... usually brown and dead this time of year [20:53] My step brothers business is under water in Ottawa [20:54] ya, saw some video of Ottawa and Finley [20:54] They kept showing this van with water up to it's windows [20:54] I saw pics of main street in Ottawa and his business is right there on main street, so I know it must be under water. [20:55] And it's funny, since he lives in Findley. [20:56] I was wondering how my favorite scuba diving quarry was doing, it's right next to the river [20:56] it's west of Finley] [20:56] Gilboa [20:59] My dad went with me there once to check out the quarry, he wanted to go fishing :) [20:59] I told him it wasn't allowed. [20:59] * Masher (Masher@NewNet-39FE8BA4.dsl.bell.ca) has joined #c64friends [20:59] Howdy Masher [20:59] Hi all! [21:00] They do stock the quarry with fish, to entertain the divers mainly [21:06] so, anything new and exciting? [21:07] Well, I'm gathering names for World of Commodore 2007. [21:07] Are you coming Caricon? [21:07] I'm not sure yet. [21:08] I won't be there, but CCCC will be represented [21:09] Hope to make the Chicago show in a month. [21:11] I know we had a great contingent from Cinci at WOC last year. [21:11] {ShadowM} hiya 51 [21:12] Hi Glenn (on Q-link again). [21:12] {ShadowM} hi Greg [21:14] My son brought me 3 dozen blank 5.25 inch diskettes. I'm happy! [21:16] Tomorrow is plan b. [21:16] I'd be happier if stuff was already on them :) [21:16] That's what I'm doing tomorrow. On SuperQ! :) [21:18] Ah, Balzabaar, you left the newsletters behind. [21:18] {Balzabaar} Oh crap. [21:18] {Balzabaar} At least I got the disks... ;) [21:19] No idiotic dead and dull reading to have put you asleep in the motel room after the drive. [21:19] {Balzabaar} I haven't had a chance to read the newsletters yet, so I didn't even realize that I had forgotten [21:19] {Balzabaar} them. [21:19] Howdy LordRonin [21:19] {Balzabaar} I had a book that I was reading at night in the motel rooms. :) [21:20] Hoi Snodpitch [21:20] {Balzabaar} Well, whenever you have a chance to, could you mail them to me? Sorry... I was trying to save [21:20] {Balzabaar} you that hassle, and I screwed it up... :( [21:20] err sober again tonight reread that as Snogpitch [21:21] Got a large manilla envelope to ship them off to you. Won't let you miss your punishment duty tour of the drivel reading. Now did you get to those disks yet, and ws that the elementary C= basic bok I suggested to you? [21:22] {Balzabaar} I have the disks and the book... I haven't had any time to go through anything yet though. [21:22] {Balzabaar} This is actually the first time I've turned on my C128 since I've been home! [21:23] {Balzabaar} I've got the next three days off though, so I should have some time to catch up on things. [21:23] The companion volume to that set, of the book that is, has been told to me to be the second best in ML understanding. Written a bit more for dum orks like me. [21:23] Looking forward to using Star Commander tomorrow to create a keyed GEOS disk for my 64HDD. [21:23] OK but remember that the Operation Red Cat stories are "M" rated [21:24] {Balzabaar} We got my grandfather's roll-top desk moved into our living room. Now we have to get the... [21:24] What books are those LordRonin? [21:24] {Balzabaar} ...bedroom items moved upstairs. [21:24] {Balzabaar} My wife has already started that, actually... I'm going to have to leave here in a bit to help. [21:25] * beeman (~Javauser@NewNet-5A69352D.tampabay.res.rr.com) has joined #c64friends [21:25] {Balzabaar} Hello Beeman. [21:25] Howdy beeman [21:25] For the first time since moving back with my brother I was finally able to receive digital shortwave again. [21:25] Speaking of Star Commander. In the creating hell and havock section. On a game list, got the group discussing comp;uters. As they would be in around 6750ce. Found people there that know about the mmc64 thing. As I used the C= as a comparioson to different tech levels in this space game. [21:25] Hoi Beeman [21:25] Hello All [21:25] Evening beeman. [21:26] Snogpitch, first one IIRC is called Elementary Basic, something on that order. My copy isout of reach at the moment. 6x9 format spiral bound. Cover looks like the old pigeon holed roll top desk. [21:27] ML one is in similar format. I haven't tried it out as of yet. Still wanting to have afirm garsp of Basic before pushing to ML [21:27] Sure wish I knew where to find a copy of Comal 2.0 for either 64 or 128. Also could use a book on turtle graphics for same. [21:27] {Balzabaar} The book is "The Elementary Commodore 64" by William B. Sanders. [21:27] I've got one that sounds like the first one you mentioned called Elementary Commdore 64 by William B Sanders [21:28] doh [21:28] {Balzabaar} BRB [21:28] What go with CSC this week with all the Mi5? [21:28] Antares51. I'll look, may have copies of the Comal disks that came into the stacks. AFAIK I only have Turtle GFX for the Vic 20 [21:28] I have "The Comal Handbook" which mentions other books. [21:29] Snogpitch, I gave that one to Balzabaar when he broght a mess of C= and Amiga items by for our group. [21:29] Scored up the Geos Programmers book in that one. [21:30] BTW "Commodore Free" magazine issue 11 is out. [21:30] Now to find a few minutes to read up. Been hunting for all my Wheels and Postscript disks. In order to test out the printer I got from Ron Bain. [21:31] Gotta go and score that one up for the files. I usually get my issues on the 5C's disks [21:32] Was that Geos Programmers book the one that comes with the disk application? [21:32] Antares51 did you catch the message from Al Jackson as to why the Lars interview was missing form issue #9? [21:32] Hi LordRonin. [21:32] Snogpitch wasn't a disk in the stack for that book. [21:33] I believe the problem dealt was copyright issues. [21:33] Hoi Caricon I have to ask Eric what those fans are he put in the A4000PT that glow blue. Might work in the SCPU and the CMD HD for me. [21:33] was=with [21:33] Snogpitch did you getted flood out up there? [21:33] hello everyone [21:33] Hello Zapman. [21:34] Sorry I've been gone for a couple of weeks. You still interested in those 2 books. Want to talk to you about them too. [21:34] My main workstation has blue LEDS in the p/s. [21:34] {Balzabaar} BAK [21:34] In the dark it looks radioactive. [21:35] beeman, no, I'm farther south, we have a drought here, 10 inches under normal rainfall for the year to date [21:35] Caricon yeah Iwould still like those books [21:35] My C1 case has blue fans and other lighting in it [21:35] BTW Pending a security check, in November I've got a part-time job. [21:36] {Balzabaar} Where I'm at, it's been the dryest year since records of precipitation have been kept... [21:36] Balzabarr you couldn't have read all 48 installments of 95 blocks average each in that short of time {BG} [21:36] {Balzabaar} ...that began in 1873! [21:36] This time it's permanent. [21:37] We had four days of torrential rain here. Finally got cool, dry air outside. [21:37] {Balzabaar} I enjoyed the bit of rainfall I experienced while I was up in Oregon. :) [21:37] {Balzabaar} LR: Haven't read anything yet... ;) [21:38] Out gas prices dropped below $2.69 again. [21:38] err our [21:38] Been cooler this summer than average with a dash of rain. Mostly fine mist. Much to the annoyance of the festival and fair people. {SEG} [21:38] {Balzabaar} It's $2.58 at the station down the street... Which is a bit odd, since we are usually well above [21:38] {Balzabaar} the national average. [21:39] Looking forward to ECCC (i hope). [21:39] * Snogpitch will be attending ECCC [21:39] {Balzabaar} Well everyone... I must keep my visit here brief... I have to go help with the furnitre moving. [21:40] Have fun, Balzabaar [21:40] {Balzabaar} Goodbye! Until next time... :) [21:40] I want someone other than Jim Brain or Jim Lawless to see what I look like. [21:40] BCNU Balzasbaar [21:40] Bye Balzabaar. [21:40] Is that your first trip to Chicago? [21:41] Flew into O'hare a few times. Maybe my first drive. [21:41] Maybe after our #16 returns fromt eh cat box we can plan a trip to a C= expo/con [21:42] Left QRoom: Balzabaar [21:42] In case anyone is interested -> Kikstart C16 for C64 released today http://noname.c64.org/csdb/release/download.php?id=63291 [21:42] What is it? [21:43] BTW Moloch! [21:43] Don't know but I just grabbed it [21:43] and, Joe Gunn Gold Edition -> http://noname.c64.org/csdb/release/download.php?id=63281 [21:43] Greedy me of course [21:43] Kikstart is a game, motorcross side scroller [21:44] Interesting. [21:44] * Moloch smacks Antares51 with some half-rotten zombie trout [21:44] Yippee!!! [21:44] that last one is a .T64. Have to learn about those [21:45] Moloch does that kickstart work on the 64 or is it just c16? Wasn't sure from what you said and the file name [21:45] * Antares51 passes around cold glasses of lemonade. [21:45] It's a C64 conversion of the C16 version of the game [21:45] .t64 is a tape image [21:46] thanks, is it ok to put it on the local club disk and the BBS, ah as is of course [21:46] haven't yet worked with tape images. [21:46] I can give you a d64 image if you want it [21:46] Entered QRoom: Snogpitch [21:46] To cool here Antares51 for lemonade. I'm still on coffee [21:47] If that would be better for my limited understanding, yes please on the .D64 [21:47] * Antares51 passes around trays of freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies. [21:47] * LordRonin too busy munching on chocalate chip cookies to type [21:47] {Snogpitch} lol [21:47] ...with Nestles chips. [21:48] Antares51 did you know that chocolate chip cookies is form of money in the SCA? {Society for Creative Anacronism} [21:48] I saved some over for Moloch. ;-) [21:49] I'm having an ice cream sandwich. [21:49] No, I didn't. [21:49] Pipe and coffee for me wiht a 25# cat on the lap [21:49] Used to be a regular thing at feasts and events. When I was more active 20 years ago. [21:49] LR -> http://www.arkanixlabs.com/JoeGunnGoldEdition.d64 [21:49] I like cats. My sister has three and my daughter has one. [21:50] {Snogpitch} I haven't been to a SCA event since the 80s [21:50] LR did you see that CMD Ramlink go for $425.00 [21:50] tonigth [21:50] We used to have them here over in Council Bluffs, IA. [21:51] Moloch thanks just grabbed it with firefox. Learning this linux thing eventually. {G} [21:51] Obscene pricing. [21:51] {Snogpitch} Of course some folks consider the Renaissance Fest SCA [21:51] beeman no, I just got up to the place at 6:10 my time from the shop. Tossed in a roast and came online. tonight [21:52] I usually run IRC on my Linux workstation. I love Mandriva! [21:52] Held many offices in the local shire. But don't do brown nose politics weel. Was a bard, fencer and archer at one time in the SCA [21:53] I'd make a good troubadour. [21:54] I sing lyric tenor. [21:54] Antares51 I'm running the beta of kubuntu 7.04. Just starting out with a lot of helpf from Destined/WeirdWolf. Still think the C= is the best PC ever made. But willing to learn new things. As long as they aren't micro$oft windoze. [21:55] Didn't have to sing. Those where the minstrals . My task was epic story telling. [21:55] ah, thus the practice for long winded story telling :) [21:56] I agree. When my last Amiga went south I decided to either go Linux or Mac. Did both. [21:56] Worry Snogpitch, or feel pity for your editor. If I can find my postscript disks and this printer works. Back to the 20 page monthly booklet newsletters from us {SEG} [21:57] Which reminds me, I need to send Dale an email...haven't received my disks yet. [21:58] Never could get the hang of the AMiga. Too many WorkBenches to consider, and never understood the book. Got real frustrated at the screen with the cursor looking for an arguement. Only one that I could think of giving it was a very large hammer. [21:58] I use Windoze only for applications that aren't supported well otherwise. I also mustneeds keep my CompTIA A+ up-to-date. [21:59] Which disks Snogpitch? That reminds me I ow him an email. He wanted to talk on the phone with me for postprint work. [21:59] I purchased Laser Lovers back in May, still waiting for the package [21:59] Way past me Antares, I let my Journyman CET expire over 20 years ago. Along with the 1st class radio telephone license and the whole lot. [21:59] The Amiga will ALWAYS be my first love. I appreciated the command line. It gave me a leg-up on DOS and Unix. [22:00] Ah, I have that one as it is needed for postscript work. Best thing on the disk is the wrong is write v8.1 for Geos. Use that one more than any other tool on that disk. [22:00] Radio license? [22:01] And how easy it was to just install something. Not having 10 CD's to install a printer. [22:01] I've used wrong is write before, usually used geoDOS instead, found the tools in that program to be very useful [22:01] Have shack: can't yack. :-( [22:01] Amiga is still good. I'm working with help from Robert and others on the acug list on setting up my 1200 with WB3.9. Just a lot of problems in not understanding things on our part. [22:02] I tried to install 3.9. Just messed up everything on my system. [22:02] I only get by with Aros. [22:02] Antares, yeah but got that back in 76. Things where hard but nothing like today in electronics. [22:02] I just stayed with 3.5 [22:02] Right Caricon, I get lost on all that installation stuff. [22:03] My A2000 has v3.5 installed and haven't used it in quite a while. Most of my needs are answered with my Windows machines [22:03] It's just easy with the 5 disks on 3.5. Just start with disk 1 and go thru to 5. [22:03] At least the morse code requirement's gone. [22:03] Snogpitch I use the wrong is write v8.1 because it will do the asci to pet or GeoWrite, and it will also do several versions of GeoWrite, as well as substitue fonts for you. OK it works in 80c and the "Q" gets you out of it easily. {G} [22:03] Then install the video drivers. [22:05] Well I bought through Robert some new to me HDs for the 1200. Came from one of his Amiga friends. He also scored upo for me the 3.1 ROM. As I had the 3.0 one. From a local member got a copy of the 3.9 CD. Now to just get that freller to be seen by the HD. System will be used by members at the shop for Amiga things. I seem to be on the 128D all day {G} [22:06] The part I found useful was being able to read non-C= disks with geoDOS and move them to another drive in geoWrite format, very handy with a single utility [22:06] My favorite was Big Blue Reader. [22:07] I did that with the Sabrina on line comics. Had to take them from a heretic formated disk to my SCPU ram and then convert thim with the gif converter to GeoPaint. [22:07] Got three copies of that with books. NEver used it yet. Though other local members have in the past. [22:07] I call it my "Swiss Army Knife". [22:08] Did that convert the gifs to color or black and white? [22:08] LOL [22:08] That and Omega Q2. [22:08] B&W only, I think that there is at least one version of the two that I have in my collection on the laser lovers disk. [22:09] Omega-Q II, That one I use almost wekly. [22:10] I've used the b&w version, but wished a color version could be done [22:11] Yeah I have the same desire. There is one tool that I found. Can't remember the name of it right off the bat. Needs the 64Kvdc in the 128. But it converts images and gives colour. Even in 128 80c mode in Geos. Have to dig it out again. I remember the Ipaint conversion it did, put it on a club disk a whhile back [22:12] colorez? [22:12] In fact I had to use Omega-Q II today in order to file copy from a FD disk to a 1541 [22:13] hmm, I usually use fdcopy for that ;) [22:13] I got the 2.1 verson. [22:13] Left QRoom: ShadowM [22:13] yeah it was in colour mech. I know wher eI got the file from. It was on a 1581 disk of tools that I scored up that was used by the guy that made GeoVision. [22:13] i was thinking colorex128 proggy, wrong thing ;) [22:14] colorez128 rather [22:14] Didn't have Fcopy+ in the shop at the time. So experimented. Did have to do the custom menu part to expert first. [22:14] I'm gonna head on out folks. Tomorrow's a long day. It's been good chatting. Niters! [22:15] No I don't think that was it, my memory is faded I think the name started with an "L" and ait was an in GEOS operating tool. [22:15] BCNU Antares51 [22:15] * Antares51 (~Richard_E@NewNet-641EFC4C.om.om.cox.net) Quit (Quit: Leaving.) [22:17] mech I don't know of this colorez128 prg you mention. Can you tell me about it? [22:17] Only L coming to my mind is Landmark, and that was a collection [22:18] Yeah me too at the moment for a full name. I'll have to look through the library disks now and see what it was exactly. [22:18] BRB I can smell the raost, two rooms away [22:19] {Snogpitch} yum :9 [22:19] Zapman, you still afk? [22:20] LordRonin: its quite old,was something to take advantage of the 64Kvdc,unfortunately i lost my copy long ago,so memory is kinda faint [22:23] I got a disk from Charles Needom the other day, it was a collection of his artwork put to music, something he has been trying to do for a better part of a year now [22:24] Rost is on the plate with the peppericinos One cooling the other warming [22:24] Now that he has the graphix part down, time to introduce him to stereo SIDs :) [22:24] I'll try to remember to look in the files and see if I can find that prg and let all know mech [22:25] ok [22:25] Snogpitch, yeah got the same one the other day. I owe him two disk replies now. Did you get the one with the Shadowrun logo set to mucis? [22:25] No, they are mostly CCCC graphix and one of me [22:27] Ah he made specific ones then. As he took the image from one of our older newsletters. The shadowrun logo I did with handy scanner and used his system to put it on dis. I have that one, but not the one with you. [22:27] Rest are ones that I have seen in his work sent to me in the past. He added the CCCC part to most of them. BRoken window one is excelletn. [22:27] I think I have the d64 on this machine. let me check [22:28] I have to send him some Geos games, and the pasi zip unzip files. All scattered about at the moment. [22:28] nope not on this machine.... [22:29] ya, I like that one with the cracked screen :) [22:30] I made a d64 image of the disk, since the mailman creased the disk putting it into my mailbox. [22:30] I tried to make one in Koala several years ago for an effect. Never could make it right. Didn't have the patience with the joystick version. [22:30] Wanted to make sure I could read it later if needed [22:31] I'll have to remind Charles again aobu the cardboard protectors. [22:31] ya, protector or mailer would have saved it [22:31] Think we created a new addict in him {BG} [22:31] I'm going to send him back a letter using Future Writer, I think I have that somewhere... [22:32] I played with it once after downloading it about 15 years ago.... [22:33] PArt of what I will be sending to him is a few writers that I found in my disk hunting. Hade over 100 of them. But they are on the HD with Maurice at the moment. Found a few that I can send for his collection. [22:34] Been using rainbowriter II for my disk letters to him. He has been using different ones each time to me. [22:34] Hmm no RobertB yet. Wonder if he is still mad at me for scoring up the AMiga items, he had wanted? [22:35] Is he still in Vegas? Or has and I haven't seen it in mail tonight. [22:38] Back in the glory BBS days, lots of dox for games were created using Future Writer [22:38] or one of the 1000 other writer programs floating around, yeah [22:39] * Bryan (~chatzilla@NewNet-32ECD8AF.hsd1.nj.comcast.net) has joined #c64friends [22:39] I remember seeing those dox for games on disks that I got 2nd-5th hand. [22:52] it is CA... you guys pay a sun tax.. ;) [22:53] lol [22:54] But it was nice when I vacationed S CA one time over Christmas /New Years.. [22:55] In what part of S. California? [22:55] Around Carlsbad.. [22:56] I've never been to that part. [22:56] we even visited Tijuana a few times.. [23:06] and speaking of eye wash stations.. long, long ago I used to help my grandparents clean a labratory.. there was lots of eye wash stations there and even a place in the middle on one room where you would pull this chain and get showered! (red lights flashing) [23:07] the lab also had a teletype machine with paper tape addon.. [23:08] Dangerous teletype machines that need wash stations around them? [23:09] no no.. the teletype machine was in a completely different room.. [23:09] more of an office type room then lab experiment room.. [23:09] Ah, safe from corrosive chemicals.
