[21:52] evening LR [21:52] Robert: Best take that up with LA. I'm so upset at things that beer and a couple bowls of soup have been the only thing that partialy stays down since the 21st. Can't handle the trade in my condition. Can't order product with out LA. [21:52] the only time I reinked a ribbon, I used an internal sponge that held ink [21:52] WD-40 not recommended. [21:52] I used to use a sharpie to reink a ribbon, but that doesn'tlast long [21:52] Hoi and Shalome Vanessa [21:52] Why, LR? Is it because of a dead CMD HD? It's all pretty usable on a C128 [23:06] Telnet, too, Alan. [23:06] Dragos, then you could telnet into a shell account [23:06] That right, Robert. [23:06] what terminal are you guys using [23:07] real men use vicmodems [23:07] I use Desterm 2.01. [23:07] My ISP has a lot of those fun UNIX games online, too. Fun to play on the 128 [23:07] real mean use smoke signals [23:07] I use Desterm too [23:07] real men whistle the codes at 110 baud [23:07] lda $tash:sta join,t:rol [23:07] haha [23:08] Real men use semaphore signals. [23:08] I send my packets via Canada Post. [23:08] avian carrier protocol [23:08] real men, doesn't care about computers and go out seeking cheex [23:08] like that blind dude [23:09] what was his name? [23:09] Ray Charles? [23:09] :D [23:09] no,. the phreaker [23:09] used to whistle his way through the long distance circuits [23:09] <^Oldbit^> Sneakers? [23:09] Stevie Wonder? [23:09] ray "teh phr34k0r" charles [23:09] How is Canada Post, Golan? It took 8 days for me to receive some disks sent via First Class U.S.. The sender was just 200 miles away. [23:09] SKU 254565 [23:09] it wasn't cap'n crunch, it was some other famous phreaker [23:10] Excellent cooling capability for your PC configuration - this Briza-63 Midi tower has equipped a 12cm cooling Power supply fan and capacity for 2 more 12cm Fans in chassis, along with 7,200 perforated vent holes side panels. Unconventional, but neat Front panel design put your PC as a stylish device in your working environment. [23:10] And 11 days to get a DVD via First Class from the East Coast! [23:10] RobertB: I understand that the USPS is faster but I've found Canada Post to be quite reliable. [23:10] $39.99 [23:10] Snog, have a link? [23:10] Oooo, stylish! :-) [23:10] Good price. [23:10] That's cheap [23:10] http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0206622 [23:10] it figures [23:11] he was "The Whistler" [23:11] I paid significantly more for my case [23:11] I have mailed letters in the afternoon and was told they arrived with the mail the next morning. This was to a city approx. 150 miles away. [23:11] Joe Engressia [23:11] post is unpredictable the carts i sent you took about a week kilr has been waiting 8 for a 128 from here [23:12] Garth got a drive mech from me very quickly, but paid a dear price for the speedy delivery [23:12] If anyone is interested in a photocopy of the original "Secrets of the Little Blue Box" by Ron Rosenbaum, let me know. [23:12] I have the original magazine here. [23:12] Pretty good lucking case, Snog [23:12] What is that book, Golan? [23:13] freight from/to here is expensive the 128 was AU$80.00 to canada [23:13] Luck? Do you have to be lucky? ;-) [23:13] but roberts carts were less than $5.00 to send [23:14] RobertB: Magazine actually. The aforementioned article which broke upon the whole phone phreaking business was published in October 1971 in Esquire. I have an original copy. [23:16] Hmmm, 1971... too early for Commodore. :-) [23:16] Anyway, if I was to build another machine soon, that would probably be the case I'd get [23:16] Ah-ha, a Snog recommendation! [23:17] not a recommendation, just that it would fit my requirements [23:17] an snog endorsement [23:17] er [23:17] a [23:17] not an [23:18] I was thinking about mounting a DTV into the same case. [23:18] i am still trying to find a place that has the dtvs [23:18] I was thinking the same thing as well, RobertB [23:18] is oldbit still with us ? [23:18] i have one of the rs hummers, but i want the dtv joystick [23:18] California and Nevada Toys R Us still have them. [23:19] I was contemplating on using a 5 1/4 drive adaptor kit to set it up in a drive bay [23:19] Hmm, that would be an idea, Snog. [23:20] * Garth_ dont own a tv so a dtv would be as useful as an ashtray on a motorcycle :-) [23:20] My C1 has two open slots a 5 1/4 and a 3 1/2 [23:20] Snog, do you know whether the Samsung flat-panel LCD tv/computer monitors can handle a PAL signal, too? [23:21] Useful if you have the motorcycle stopped. :-) [23:21] None of the tv/computer monitors Micro Center sells have PAL capabilities that I've noticed [23:22] lots of inputs tho [23:22] most modern tvs are dual standard [23:22] Well, I could just go over to Office Depot and plug in the PAL DTV to one of theirs. [23:22] Not here in the U.S., Garth. [23:23] they are becoming common here but the voltage would be a problem in the states [23:23] Of course. [23:24] Snog, what else would you recommend in the construction of a C1 case? [23:24] still wondering how kilr will get on with the 128 the video should be ok with a c monitor and the 80 column is ok with a cga monitor leaving only the 240 volt to find [23:25] Depends on what you want to spend, RobertB [23:25] Tell me, Snog. The sky is almost the limit. :-) [23:25] The case I have for my C1 cost over $100 [23:25] do you run your D model on a US monitor Robert [23:25] now similiar case sells for $30 [23:26] Actually any ATX style case would work for the C1 [23:26] If you are talking about my plastic C128D, I can run it on a NTSC but only in black-and-white. [23:27] Your style, taste, and pocketbook indicate what you'll eventually end up with [23:27] No, your previous idea sounds good. Relatively small, shiny metal, good ventilation. [23:27] !seen dslman [23:27] Dragos, I don't remember seeing dslman. [23:27] !seen dslman2 [23:27] Dragos, dslman2 (dslman2@adsl-70-130-223-80.dsl.stlsmo.swbell.net) was last seen quitting #c64friends 21 hours 1 minute ago (28.01. 01:46) stating "Ping timeout: 258 seconds" after spending 14 hours 16 minutes there. [23:27] my supposed ntsc sx runs an australian 1802 ok [23:28] But I will have to see it first. I don't want a "swiss cheese" box. :-) [23:28] Hurrah, Garth! [23:28] * MikeC (~MikeC@CPE000fb552ac59-CM001371b66e78.cpe.net.cable.rogers.com) has joined #c64friends [23:28] Howdy MikeC [23:28] Hi, MikeC. [23:28] Hi guys [23:29] Robert, you should check out a Lian Li PC-60 case. Great ventilation, shiny aluminum, real high quality case [23:29] Hi Mike [23:29] Ooo, where do I find it? [23:29] I would be nice to have a window on the side of the case. [23:29] I thought the ntsc was only on the tv out part of a 64/128 isnt composite a world standard like cga is ? [23:29] Let me look through my crap...I forget where I bought it. [23:30] Last case I bought was an Antec case in a piano gloss black finish [23:30] Robert, this case comes with a windows option [23:30] There is PAL composite and NTSC composite. [23:30] Window?! ;-) [23:31] Hmmm, piano gloss. Good for spacey, air-brushed scenes on the side. :-) [23:31] Al is cutting a C= shaped window in mine. [23:31] Hard to see through the C but great idea! [23:31] http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0226770 [23:31] nope [23:32] composite is ntsc [23:32] there's ntsc composite and PAL composite [23:32] composite is just the signal without the RF carrier [23:32] SKU 844902 [23:32] I thought I just said that. [23:33] ok you coder studs.. go look at my latest post in c.s.c. :) [23:33] When I finish building my C1, I'll bring it to CommVEx v2. [23:33] no, you said it backwards :P [23:33] I like that case, because of it's quiet fans, and quiet drive mounts [23:33] mostly pal here but havent discovered any ntsc software my machines wont run it must be a one sided thing [23:33] Backwards in your reality. ;-) [23:34] Ah, I don't want fans. [23:34] * LordRonin (~lordronin@vcsweb.com) Quit (Quit: Leaving) [23:34] PAL has morre lines per screen [23:34] so it has a larger overscan [23:34] Yes, very true. [23:34] so ntsc -> pal is smaller to large [23:34] it's hard to buy a case without one anymore, but you can always take it out, or put a switch on it for when you have a warm room and need the colling [23:34] i own a 115 volt american sx which hasnt been sofware selective yet but havent used it much [23:34] mad world bbs! telnet://madworld.bounceme.net [23:35] pathos: ask kilr [23:35] he is curlyfry on ebay [23:35] and he is doing it [23:35] oh no **** [23:35] didn't know that was him [23:35] thats why i posted that [23:35] :) [23:35] sorry all for diverting Lord Ronin from here for so long. [23:35] now help me get function rom working in REU [23:35] :) [23:35] we were talking about his issues, trying to help him get his head sorted out. [23:35] Snog, I would replace the p.s. with a fanless one. [23:35] you should said something, good thing no one really blasted him too hard [23:36] * CincyJim (~sock@68.171.82.132) has joined #c64friends [23:36] sorry, didn't think to say anything :) [23:36] Howdy CincyJim [23:36] Hi, CincyJim. [23:36] Hi all [23:36] hello cincyjim [23:36] Robert, check out http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811112022 that's my case. [23:36] O.K.. [23:36] $100 [23:37] g'night [23:37] I think LR will be ok, but he needs someone close to him to get off their *** and help. [23:37] * PhotoJim is now known as PJimAFK [23:37] Dragos: when it comes to function rom in REU, as far as I know, it's treated just like a cart [23:37] (excuse, snog) [23:37] Bye, PhotoJim. [23:37] ciao PJ [23:37] CJ! [23:37] Back online after a couple days out. Just upgraded the old system to a AMD 3800+ Dual Core and a evga 7800gt. [23:37] * CJ-AFK is now known as CJ [23:37] night :) [23:38] lots of drive bays in that case [23:38] i cant get any of my function roms to work in my reu [23:38] Aw, that's too bad, Mark. [23:38] did your reu come with a socket from factory? [23:38] the big athlons are way better value for money than an intel these days [23:38] What ROMs would those be? [23:38] I'm putting a drive in every one of them, Snog [23:38] no, i added it [23:38] garth: they're good so long as they aren't attached to a via chipset. [23:38] yeah big time, I havent used intel in many many years [23:39] Dragos: only thing I can think of is that something's mussed with the soldering job/socket [23:39] using an nforce4 chipset this time. [23:39] you are plugging the REU into a 128 right? [23:39] hmmm [23:39] * Garth_ now to find what mine is attached to :-) [23:39] hehe [23:39] yes [23:39] * WizardNJ (~rlejuez@ool-45738279.dyn.optonline.net) Quit [23:40] both abe and I use PIIX and the server is...not sure off the top of my head, some old intel thing I think [23:40] pathos: http://c64.digitalscream.com/pics/reu_pic1.JPG [23:40] I dont think any pads/traces need to be cut or any additional components added to the reu for it.. could be wrong tho [23:41] time for me to log out a bit more to do outide while its still daylight [23:41] whoa.. wtf is that? a REC in a dip? [23:41] Bye, Garth. [23:41] * Garth_ (icechat5@c220-239-144-6.eburwd1.vic.optusnet.com.au) has left #c64friends [23:41] what? [23:42] that chip [23:42] CMD used the DIP version of the REC in their REU's [23:42] never even knew there was a dip version [23:42] except it's not DIP [23:42] well, close enough [23:42] i have triple checked the sodering [23:42] it's something a little different, notice the pitch of the pins... [23:42] solder [23:43] Ooo, REC trivia. [23:45] my REU does have a set of cutaway pads which one pad goes to pin 27 of the function socket [23:45] no clue what it does tho [23:46] prolly changes the ROM size [23:46] it's J2 on my board [23:46] dunno [23:46] there's 3 of them, all connected.. the middle looks like GND, one side goes up under the REC somewhere and the other to pin27 of the eprom [23:47] I wonder how Adrian Gonzalez is doing on his REC replacement. [23:48] looks like yours has quite a few jumpers near the edge connector.. [23:49] J2 is a 3pad jumper on yours too [23:51] Seems to me there was a Twin City article on doing that... [23:52] I would imagine the ROMHL, ROML, and ROMH have to do with the empty socket, since there wouldn't be any use to mess with those for the REU functionality [23:52] hmm [23:52] Speaking of articles, I found an old QuantumLink chat with Bil Herd and *** Porter talking about the new C128 (wow, this must be old!). [23:52] i'd love to figure it out [23:52] so my guess is that your function roms aren't working because you don't have those jumpers set right or something [23:53] They talk about how production was ramping up on the Commodore REU's. [23:53] with the function rom in the socket and the machine on, you should be able to see the code at 8000 [23:53] just like a cart [23:54] The chat was published in a newsletter but the text is done on a 9-pin printer. Too difficult to scan in. It would have to be keyed in manually. [23:56] Dragos: once you get it figured out, you can use a 1m flash chip, and stick 4 function roms on that socket and select em with a switch :) [23:56] hmmm [23:56] that would be cool [23:57] i should do that with my regular function rom slot [23:57] i have one of thsoe adapters, but i dont know how to asemble it [23:57] I need to find a copy of keydos128 [23:57] flash to eprom [23:57] Got the newsletter. My mistake... the chat is with Dave Haynie and Jeff Porter. [23:57] KeyDos is still sold by the author. [23:57] so? [23:57] :) [23:58] So there. [23:58] i cant beleive maurice is already started on jdos for plus/4 [23:58] anyone who thinks they're gonna make profit offa the C= is in the wrong line of work [23:59] The Plus/4 people must be dancing. :-) [23:59] selling new items to break even is fine, but if you're looking for a profit, you'll be greatly disappointed [23:59] both of em [23:59] HAHAHAAHAHAH dragos [23:59] Uh, he's been selling them for years. [00:00] you can make money selling old stuff on ebay [00:00] i got 8 carts for $10 [00:00] I don't know how much cost is in making things like the SCPU, but he could sell a bunch of them if he could just get tham out the door. Look at the crazy prices that stuff is getting on ebay [00:00] if it was product that was developed years ago, and paid for years ago, any sold above that point is profit [00:00] one was vicmon, which just sold last week for $36 [00:00] whoop wife is home [00:00] * pAth0s gets freaky [00:00] well folks, time for me to call it a nite [00:00] Randy Winchester... author of KeyDos. [00:01] catch yall next weekend [00:01] Bye, Snog. [00:01] niters folks [00:01] I should buy one. [00:01] * Disconnected
